Managing quarantined emails
What is a quarantined email?
A quarantined email is a message that HEC Montréal’s security system has identified as potentially dangerous.
This may involve:
spam
phishing attempts, where the sender tries to obtain your personal information
suspicious attachments that may contain a virus or malware
The purpose of quarantine is to protect your inbox by blocking these messages in a secure area before they reach your emails.
Quarantine notification
When emails are placed in quarantine, you receive a notification email sent from the address:
📩 courriel.quarantaine@hec.ca
This notification contains:
the subject of the quarantined message
the name of the sender
the date and time it was received
a secure link allowing you to view the quarantined email
What should you do when you receive a notification?
You have two options:
a) Do nothing
If the message seems useless, suspicious, or comes from an unknown sender, it is best to ignore it.
After 30 days, the message will be automatically deleted from quarantine.
b) Release the message
If you are certain that the message is legitimate (e.g., an expected email from a partner or supplier):
Click the “Release” button or link in the notification email.
You will be redirected to Microsoft’s secure quarantine portal.
Sign in with your HEC Montréal credentials.
In the list of quarantined messages, select the email you want to release.
Click “Release.”
The message will be immediately delivered to your inbox.
Tip: Before releasing any message, always check the sender’s address and the email subject
Precautions:
Never release a message if you are not sure of its source.
A released email containing a virus or a malicious link can compromise your information or the entire HEC Montréal network.
If you have any doubts, take No Risks: leave the message in quarantine and ask the IT Service Desk Team for advice.
