Technology specifications for the student community

Basic Specifications
Computers
At HEC Montréal, all software used in class runs under the Windows environment, according to the following specifications:
Windows 10 / 11
Office 2016, Office 2019 or an Office 365 subscription
Current version of a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
A sufficiently recent computer that allows the adequate functioning of these applications.
Note that the equipment available to faculty and in the available labs is based on Windows 10 and Office 365/2019.
It is possible to install this environment on an Apple computer (MacOS):
Use of an Apple computer without a Windows environment could distort the results of some applications, especially advanced formulas in MS-Excel.
You are responsible for installing this technology on your computer and for covering the cost of purchase of any required hardware or software for this solution.
Please note that IT End User Services does not provide installation services.
Do you have the equipment you need to take a remote course?
You must have a computer with a webcam.
You need a headset to communicate in a group.
You must have sufficient internet speed: a download speed of at least 10 Mbps and an upload speed of at least 1.5 Mbps.
Mobile and tablet devices
Note for tablet users: the following operating systems may not function properly with the various applications used in courses: Android, iOS, Windows RT.
Chromebook computers are very limited with the softwares they can execute. A lot of the softwares required in some HEC Montréal courses will NOT WORK on Chromebook devices.
Future technology
HEC Montréal cannot guarantee students that the technology specifications required at the admission will get them through their entire program. It is possible that software and/or equipment updates will be required before they have completed their program, depending on the applications used in their courses.
